Book of the Month
For November, the members of Page Turners will be reading Fourteen Days edited by Margaret Atwood and Douglas Preston.
The Guardian writes, “… this is not the work of a single creator but of 36 writers marshalled by editors Margaret Atwood and Douglas Preston, who include John Grisham, Meg Wolitzer, Dave Eggers and Celeste Ng, as well as the editors themselves. The stories are both anonymous and not; a list at the end of the book will tell you who wrote what, but within the text itself, you will have no idea.”
The book’s setting is that of the recent pandemic. “The residents of this ‘down at the heel’ apartment complex gather each evening on the roof to tell stories that vary from love stories, shaggy dog, gallows humor and various other topics, each revealing something about the ‘teller’ whether intended or not.” As stated in the Guardian review, “An immensely enjoyable product of an immensely unenjoyable time, Fourteen Days is lively, (and) freewheeling …”
Our Club
A common reason why one would belong to a book club is “you get to read books that you would not normally read.” That is very true of this group as we have approximately thirty members with very varying tastes in books who suggest what we will be reading over the year. Everyone votes on the books suggested and those with the most votes are the nine books we read that year—all very fair as everyone gets to have their input.
If you are thinking of joining a book club you are most welcome to attend one of our meetings. One group meets the fourth Monday afternoon of the month and you can con- tact me at fozimec@cox.net for information on that one. The other two groups meet separately on the fourth Thurs- day afternoon of the month, and contacts for those groups are Steve and Ann Morris at samwrsi@cox.net and Lisa
Buchner at lisabuchner47@gmail.com.
