On January 11, Women’s Club hosted their first luncheon of 2024. Suzanne Enis decorated the tables with antler centerpieces, symbolizing the “growth and renewal” generally associated with beginning a new year.
The room was packed, perhaps due to the popularity of January’s guest speaker, Marla Jo Fischer. Marla has enjoyed a successful career as an investigator reporter, staff writer and columnist. For over a decade, her humor column “Frumpy Middle-Aged Mom” has run in the Orange County Register (and other syndicated papers). Her 2020 book, Frumpy Middle-Aged Mom: Dispatches from the Front Line of Motherhood, shares humorous and relatable anecdotes of her life after adopting two young foster children at the age of forty-six. Marla continues to write, travel and make readers laugh despite a five year fight with cancer. She encourages her audiences to try new things, overcome fears and discouragement, and exercise a sense of humor, even in the hardest of times.
The new year promises great speakers and events. For starters, our January luncheon and outside activity, Bunco at the clubhouse, were both well attended and lots of fun. This month, Women’s Club looks forward to welcoming Super- visor Katrina Foley at our luncheon on February 8. She will share Orange County news, and more specifically, Dana Point Harbor updates. And, of course, looking forward, the much anticipated April fashion show and the June tea are just around the corner!
For those interested in becoming Women’s Club members, applications are available in the Niguel Shores office.
