Pet Owner Responsibilities

Leashes – Yes, you really do need to use them. This is required by both state and local ordinances.  Niguel Shores Rules & Regulations reinforces the requirement to leash a dog when the animal is not secured on a private lot. Just attaching a leash to the collar does not satisfy the rule.  The rule also requires a responsible person to be in control of the leash, and by extension the dog, at all times. Niguel Shores pet rules do not just address the leash requirement.  They also require pet owners to address excessive barking and aggressive behavior such as snapping or biting.  Niguel Shores does enforce pet rules and certain types of violations come with a monetary fine as published and sent to every owner annually with the disclosures in the annual budget.  Orange County Animal Care has also requested that residents report unleashed dogs, barking, and to immediately contact them for any aggressive behaviors.  Orange County Animal Care forms can be accessed through their website at ocpetinfo.com or on the Association’s website by clicking the OC Animal Care link.
