February finds Page Turners reading and discussing the very popular novel Lessons In Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. To quote one reviewer, “… (it) is that rare beast; a polished, funny, thought-provoking story, wearing its research lightly but confidently and with sentences so stylishly turned it’s hard to believe it’s a debut.”
Elizabeth (the main character) is a chemist but she has been banished from the lab because of an out-of- wedlock pregnancy (it’s the 1950s!). She finds herself hosting a cooking show on TV, unlike any other, which house- wives fall in love with. Her sidekick is a lovable dog called Six-Thirty. This is a thoroughly enjoyable read and “a more adorable plea for rationalism and gender equality would be hard to find.”
Page Turners consists of three groups all reading the same book. One group meets the fourth Monday afternoon of the month, and the other two groups meet the fourth Thursday afternoon. For more information, please email me
