Page Turners: May 2023

The book club has been reading “older” novels so far this year, but this month we turn to the 2021 publication, The Queen of Paris: A Novel of Coco Chanel by Pamela Binnings Ewen. Called “top-notch historical fiction” by Publisher’s Weekly, the book describes the life of Coco Chanel during the four years of Nazi occupation of Paris.

“While Chanel struggles to keep her livelihood intact, Paris sinks under the iron fist of German rule. Chanel—a woman made of sparkling granite—will do anything to survive. She will even agree to collaborate with the Nazis in order to protect her darkest secrets. When she is covertly recruited by Germany to spy for the Reich, she becomes Agent F-7124, code name: Westminster. But why? And to what lengths will she go to keep her stormy past from haunting her future?”

Page Turners book club welcomes new members so please free to visit one of the three groups that all read the same book each month. One group meets the fourth Monday afternoon of the month and the other two groups meet the fourth Thursday afternoon. All groups meet at the clubhouse.
