Traffic & Safety Committee: April 2023

Stopping Crime—According to reports, our community remains virtually crime free. This is despite warnings from the Sheriff’s Department that teams of burglars are actively plaguing communities surrounding us. The sheriff’s pro- gram of encouraging us to lock and secure our valuables has caused us to be a bit more mindful of security issues and, as a consequence, we as a group have become a tough target for any would be thief. However, each of us by just being good neighbors and adhering to our community rules have had the biggest effect on the crime and safety issue.
James Q. Wilson, a well-known and respected sociologist, has developed several crime prevention programs utilized by cities throughout the country. Several years ago, he noted that a community’s cleanliness, perception of orderliness, and adherence to even minor rules had the effect of significantly reducing the overall crime picture. As far as stopping criminal activity, we all have a role every day.
Emergency Equipment Available (AEDs)—Our com- munity has two Automated External Defibrillators that may be deployed for emergencies. One is stored just inside the Clubhouse door and the other is in the Patrol Service vehicle. If an emergency situation develops and the subject’s heart has no sign of functioning, an AED shock may restart the heart. The application of the AED may make a difference in a life- or-death situation. Should the Clubhouse be closed, and the door locked, you may phone the gatehouse at (949) 487-4185 to obtain the AED that is in in the patrol vehicle.
The AED is easy to use and has pads for both adults and children. It has an audible response that will advise the user of how to apply and the steps to be taken. As always call 911 first in the event of an emergency.
