A Time to Celebrate—December has arrived: a time of celebration, colorful lights, vibrant wreaths, and family gatherings. Let all the world welcome this season of peace.
The Garden Club will celebrate this joyful season at our Holiday Party for members on Monday, December 12 at 11 a.m. in the Clubhouse. If you wish to participate in our fun gift exchange, please bring a wrapped garden-related gift worth $15.
Lunch at this party always promises to be a delicious affair with “bring and share” appetizers, salads and desserts. We look forward to the peace, joy, and friendship of the season, and we also look forward to another year of fruitful gardening in 2023!
Ritz Garden Tour—Last month, an enthusiastic group of Garden Club members took a field trip to our neighbor, the Ritz Carlton Hotel. We were fortunate to have Andrew Dandy, the naturalist from their Eco Adventure Center, give a tour through portions of their gardens and a presentation on “Birds, Bees, and Butterflies.” He also entertained us with his version of the mating dance and calls of the male Anna’s and Allen’s Hummingbirds, which are endemic to our region!
Gift Idea—During this holiday season, if you are hunting for gift ideas, have a look at a beautifully illustrated book titled Around the World in 80
Plants by Jonathan Drori, illustrated by Lucille Clerc. This book draws on botany, history and culture to showcase the ways in which plants and people inter- sect. You can read stories about the origins of familiar flora like tomatoes, dandelions, artichokes, and bananas; as well as more unusual ones like Spanish moss, mandrake, and nettles, to name a few. This publication is a follow-up to the
author’s bestselling Around the World in 80 Trees, and both books are botanical journeys of beauty and brilliance.
