This month Page Turners will be reading Jane Smiley’s latest novel, Perestroika In Paris. Smiley won the Pulitzer Prize for her novel A Thousand Acres and recently completed her
very popular Last Hundred Years Trilogy. Our selection is a very different work from this author’s other writing. The publisher describes it as “a captivating, brilliantly imagina- tive story of three extraordinary animals—and a young boy— whose lives intersect in Paris.” Another reviewer calls, “This a delightful, heartwarming tale about creatures living in the rough in Paris’s Champs de Mars . . . and it’s an appealing balm for harsh times.” Sounds like a delightful read. In case you are wondering, Perestroika is the name of the thorough- bred horse who is the “main character” in the book.
Page Turners Book Club consists of three groups of approximately ten members each. One group meets on the fourth Monday afternoon of the month and the other two groups meet on the fourth Thursday afternoon. For infor- mation on the Thursday groups you can contact Steve and Ann Morris at samwrsi@cox.net and for the Monday group, Frances at fozimec@cox.net.
