On July 20, the Men’s Club hosted 5th District Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett, who filled in the membership on topics including the county’s pandemic response and the Dana Point Harbor revitalization.
According to Lisa, the county gave small businesses $112 million to help weather the pandemic. We were the first county to start vaccinating those 65 years and older, and 70% of Orange County residents 18 years of age and older have been vaccinated. Supervisor Bartlett went on to tell us that the harbor revitalization will start within a couple of months. The initial project will be the groundbreaking of a new parking structure at the corner of Dana Point Harbor Drive and Golden Lantern. The $330 million project will include new boat slips, dry boat storage, shops, restaurants, and hotels and will take between five and seven years to complete.
Thank you, Lisa, for speaking to our organization and answering so many of our questions!
We have two breakfast meetings scheduled for September. Our September 7 breakfast will feature Dudley Gladding, a World War II B-24 bomber pilot who flew 40 combat missions. On September 21, we’ll host our own CW Gruenig. CW will share about his father-in-law, Admiral Roy Davenport, who is the first individual and only sailor to be awarded five Navy Crosses, the United States military’s second-highest decoration for valor.
The Men’s Club will be hosting an Oktoberfest celebration on Saturday, October 9 at 6 p.m. Community residents are invited to attend. Tickets for food and entertainment are $12, and may be
