We are eager to resume regular meetings and—when
that eventually happens—we’ve lined up some outstand- ing speakers to accompany our excellent breakfasts. For example, we’ll hear about the progress at Dana Point Harbor from leaders of companies responsible for the refurbishment, such as Bellwether Financial. We’ll also view National Geographic’s film of land sailors racing over the Sahara Desert (one of these racers recently spoke to us). And we’ll be treated to a presentation on Polynesian voyaging history including daring travel across huge distances in open canoes and settling islands scattered throughout the South Pacific.
Camaraderie is a given at meetings of the Niguel Shores Men’s Club, along with a freshly prepared hot breakfast accompanied by talented speakers on interesting subjects. Another bonus is mixing with some of the most dynamic and contributing men in the Shores. Many are our community leaders such as all three of those recently elected to the Niguel Shores Board of Directors. The Men’s Club offers a chance to become aware and partici- pate in what is happening in our amazing community. In addition, we provide scholarships to graduating students and, if you play golf at any level, members are looking for fellow players.
As Vice President in charge of programs and club activities, I would like to hear about preferred activi- ties for members and those who will be joining us in the future. Soon I will ask you to return my email with your choices for activities you would most enjoy. We will not be able to do them all, but club leadership wants to pro- vide events that would have the most support. See the list below for some of the items to choose from. If you have additional ideas, please do not hesitate to put them into your reply to my email. I will share your preferences with the Men’s Club Board of Directors for event planning.
Some choices are the following:
■ Oktoberfest. If we have COVID-19 clearance by that time, Treasurer Eric Eckes plans to lead the fun again this year.
■ July 4th Independence Day Breakfast for 2021. A very popular tradition usually serving 500 residents and guests.
■ Annual Golf Putting Contest at Talega Golf Club with elegant breakfast afterward.
■ Mexican Dinner catered in the spring.
■ Horse Racing at Del Mar.
■ Angels or Dodgers Baseball Game.
Air Force One at Reagan Presidential Library
■ Car Caravan with Lunch to a special place such as the Reagan Presidential Library with its 11,000 square foot FBI Exhibit and walk through Air Force One used by Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush Sr, Clin- ton, and Bush Jr.
All men of Niguel Shores are invited join us. New- comers receive a complimentary breakfast any first or third Tuesday when we have clearance to reopen our meet- ings. Come and see if the Men’s Club is for you.
