MEN’S CLUB
Best Breakfast in Town
Phone calls to Tim Murphy and Roy Dohner gave me a new appre- ciation for the Five Cooking Teams that produce the excellent break- fasts for our Men’s Club meetings twice a month. I even learned a bit about the breakfast history. Tim says he enjoys these meals so much that he eats only one breakfast every

Please note that you all have the independent liberty to decide if you are ready to join in social gatherings!
As I write this article, the Clubhouse multi-purpose room restrictions have not been lifted, but there is a possi- bility we could gather at the Bluff bringing our own lunches and maintaining a social distance. Most important we would have time to be together! Watch for an email invitation on June 4 with more information for members about the pos- sibility of such an event.
Outside activities will definitely resume this month. On June 18, we will meet in front of the Clubhouse at 9:30 a.m. and walk together via the Ritz Carlton beach route.
We need committee volunteers in order to continue the wonderful events we plan every year. Below I have a list of Committee Signups for the 2020-2021 NSWC year. Please choose whatever committees suit you and email Terry Link at tjlink630@gmail.com. It would be delightful to have every member of our club involved on a committee! I encourage you to sign up for something where your time and talents would be put to good use.

The club’s dedication to making people happy through good food keeps nearly every member active in their roles, and all members are on one of the five teams to cook or clean up.
Our lead cooks are excellent because of their expe- rience or their willingness to learn from those that have experience. We were fortunate to have the skills of Jack Sweeney, unfortunately now passed from our view, who was the head cook of all head cooks. Using his training as a cook for our U.S. Army, he led or influenced all five teams for about 20 years and managed special events such as Oktoberfest. One lead cook, Bob Enger, was overseer of his army mess hall. Another, Mike Roberts, was a cook for our U.S Navy.
Some other members who have served our breakfast teams for years are Jack Christiansen, who put in more than 20 years of effective overall leadership, stepping up to do whatever was needed with real
leadership and caring. Involved for years have been Bob Russell, Bob Gutknecht, Boyd Van Ness and Blair McDonald. Current excel- lence and leadership are coming from Steve Morris, Rob Wollin, Al Glatt, Bob Baker, Len Beebe, Jon Cobain, Geoff Dunlevie. For example, for 19 straight years Roy Dohner has led the hugely successful July 4th Pancake Breakfast. Eric Eckes has agreed to make the Octoberfest his baby going forward with German food and music, as we witnessed under his terrific leadership on the event this last year.
At our meetings, a token $5 buys the Best Breakfast in Town always consisting of eggs, meat, muffin, fruit, juice and coffee. It’s as fresh as possible since the lead cooks buy food and get it ready on Monday and then come in at 6:00 a.m. Tuesday to prepare it. The cleanup team steps in later for easy work because the cooks wash up pots and pans while the cookware is hot and easy to clean. Tim remarked that he is impressed because the food is promptly ready to serve our large group at precisely 8:00
a.m. each meeting as members arrive.

Men’s Club Scholarships
The club expresses its admiration for Dick Kichline and the consci- entious Men’s Club Scholarship Team of Al Glatt, Jon Cobain and Karl Kuhn who each year select two deserving local high school students to receive $1000 toward their education. Each recipient, along with family, is invited to speak to the club during the scholarship award presentation. Dick Kichline became the Scholarship Committee Chair, replacing Bob Borland who passed away last year; and Bob had replaced Jerry Pearl. Each of these leaders eagerly took on their roles that bring a little bit of financial help and a lot of appreciation to the student recipients. Details about the current scholar- ship recipients Jackson Fleming and James Gannaway can be found on pages 10 and 11 of this issue.
All men in Niguel Shores are invited to attend a com- plimentary breakfast meeting of the Men’s Club to see if
membership is for them.
