Women’s Club: December 2019 News

Happy holidays from the Niguel Shores Women’s Club! As always, the blessed holiday season is filled with joyful events and traditional celebrations. At our November luncheon meeting, we gave thanks and honored special veterans in our lives by sharing photos and special memories. Suzanne Enis beautifully decorated the Clubhouse with “thank- ful trees dedicated to those who have served in the military.” Maria Elena Banks led us with her lovely voice in “God Bless America” and we pledged allegiance to the flag. We gave our respects to past Women’s Club Presidents Lydia Reese, Lisa Buchner, Karla Sanders, Nancy Tinnes, Tina Fornadley, and Hope Luedeke. Thank you to these ladies for their gifts of time and dedication to our NSWC!
Our speaker Randi Biederman, who co-authored Schindler’s Listed with Mark Biederman, told how Mark’s mother survived Aus- chwitz as the personal cook of Josef Mengele. She went on to describe the search for gold coins buried by Mark’s father in wartime Poland. Like so many families who experienced the Holocaust, Mark’s parents refused to talk about the horrors of Auschwitz. However, after much curiosity and research, Mark and Randi finally discovered the address where the gold coin collection had been buried. Their book provides even more amazing accounts of events in the family’s history.
As our Outside Activity in November, we thoroughly enjoyed Roger’s Gardens Holiday Boutique and the Farmhouse Restaurant “farm-to-fork” menu using ingredients
straight from local growers and the farmer’s market. We will not have an Outside Activity in December.
All Women’s Club members and guests are invited to our traditional Women’s Club Holiday Party, “Home for the Holidays,” on Thursday, December 12, from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy a festive evening in a relaxed woodland setting with holiday music and delicious food and drinks. Members, please bring a hearty appetizer for sharing, and an unwrapped toy for the Dana Point 5th Marine children at Camp Pendleton. This evening party takes the place of our December luncheon. CHEERS!
