Garden Club: September News

I’m sure that all of you members, after a lazy and mild summer, at least here at the coast, are anxious to start another year of interesting and adventurous Garden Club activities. So get ready for a stinging first meeting on Monday, September 15.
Our speaker will be Mackenzie Hintz of Bee Happy Botanicals, which she founded last year. Realizing how important bees are to our ecosystem, she started right away by safely relocating bees to her aviary in San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Beach. Come and hear how she learned beehive
maintenance, bee pests and diseases, and then started making and selling handcrafted beeswax products to spread the word while showing people the amazing benefits of bee products.
Don’t miss this fascinating meeting. Here is another tidbit that you might find interesting. From a past issue of Better Home and Gardens, the caption
said Garden—For Good Health. Working in the dirt cultivates big benefits for your mind and body. 27% = the amount gardening can lower your risk of heart attack or stroke. 11 pounds = Gardeners are roughly that much lighter than those who don’t dig in. 50 % = Cut your risk of Alzheimer’s
disease in half by gardening regularly.
In addition to the presentation on bees at the meeting this month, there will be signups for our upcoming Lobster dinner, Forget-Me-Not project, and Holiday Party.
P.S. You don’t have to come to the September meeting in a Bee Protection
