Men’s Club: August 2019 News

July commenced with the United States of America and Niguel Shores celebrating the anniversary of the country’s founding. Our Fourth started with the successful community pancake breakfast led by a Men’s Club team of 48 members under the tutelage of Roy Dohner. The day ended with spectacular fireworks from venues surrounding us. The Fourth preempted our regular first Tuesday meeting.
On July 16, the Morris/Wollin Team served a gastronomical breakfast, not your uncle’s pancakes. Treasurer Eric Eckes reported that we have ample money to award more scholarships in the coming year.
The Sunshine Committee under the auspices of Jack Christiansen and Karl Kuhn reported that Bob Borland suffered serious injuries in a fall at his new home in Ladera Ranch.
Vice President CW Gruenig reiterates you can order our logo shirts online at www.business.landsend.com/store/niguelshores or by calling 1 (800) 587-1541.
At the meeting, oral health coach Carrie Ibbetson introduced us to better overall health by changing the way we manage our gums! Flossing should be the least of your worries—good gums are the end point, not the beginning of good teeth, good mouth and good health. Gum disease leads to bad health throughout the body. Carrie recommended using a small TePe toothbrush, holding it vertically, and brushing the gums. For better breath, she said to breathe only through the nose, not the mouth. It changes
the pH of your mouth and nasal system for a healthier you.
Engage in conscious breathing. Your objective is to get through the biofilm dome holding the bad bacteria to your gums. When asked to compare electric and manual toothbrushes, her answer was to use BOTH. Change is good, and varying the types of brush provides different modes of gum stimulation. Stimulating your gums stimulates your blood flow which stimulates your health! For promoting upper respiratory health without drying out the nasal passages, Carrie said to use a nasal spray with xylitol.
It washes out common infectious agents, helps defend against allergens, and moistens nasal passages. See you on August 6!
