Page Turners Book Club: June 2019 News

In June and December, Page Turners hold joint meetings of the Monday and Thursday afternoon groups. We will be meeting Thursday, June 20 at 1:00 p.m. in the Clubhouse. This is always a fun-filled meeting as we get to discuss the books we have read over the past year and also discover the results of our voting for the books we will be reading in the upcoming year.
Last month, members submitted two dozen book titles and then voted for their nine favorites for next year’s discussions. Those books that did not make the nine finalists provide a list of wonderful books that we read outside the club. If anyone would like to receive the list of twenty-four books nominated, please let me know at the email below and I will be happy to provide it.
At our June 20 meeting, we will discuss this month’s selection, A Small Indiscretion by Jan Ellison, which was named one of the Best Books of the Year by the San Francisco Chronicle. “With emotional complexity . . . and psychological suspense . . . O. Henry Prize winner Ellison delivers a
brilliantly paced, beautifully written debut novel about one woman’s reckoning with a youthful mistake.”
We will also have a “blind book exchange.” Members bring a gift-wrapped book and take turns selecting from among the wrapped books, often coming up with a surprise. This is a fun activity because one may have selected what seems to be just the right book, but it is subject to “stealing” before it can be considered “safe” with the person who has it at the end.
