Really Serious Book Club: Rigor Mortis by Richard Harris

Lakshman Sehgal hosted the meeting and led the discussion on Rigor Mortis, a book critical of many published medical research papers because of lack of proper peer review, statistical errors, bad research design, mishandled data, etc. The author, Richard Harris, partly blames competition to publish early and often. In discussion it was a consensus that most flawed research was from areas where there is public pressure to get results fast and much competition to secure funding. Better peer review and calling out of flawed research would help the process. Next month’s discussion will be Everybody Lies by Davidowitz, the story of Big Data.
