Those using the Main Gate have undoubtedly noticed that the license plate reader post has been under repair for quite some time. A seemingly simple replacement job turned into a rather lengthy project for George Cooley and our maintenance crew. The existing post, which was no more than a PVC pipe filled with cement that had been sunk into the asphalt, was failing; so a decision was made to replace it. While a new custom post of correct specifications was being fabricated and powder coated, the failing one had to be fortified temporarily. This meant the maintenance team had to pack asphalt around the base and then ultimately add sand bags to make sure it didn’t fall over and cause a safety issue. Once the custom base was completed, it was installed and secured with a new recessed cement footing. The result is a very pleasant-looking post with a removable cap so the camera wiring can be accessed, which should last for years to come. An added bonus is that the repositioning of the sign instructing visitors to wait is proving to be much more effective than the old one.
In response to a resident’s concern that the pathway from the pool gate access to the locker rooms was often wet and slippery our maintenance team researched several options for a suitable fix. It was determined that the best solution is a product called “No Skidding,” an anti-slip treatment formulated specifically to address slippery-when-wet concrete, making the area much safer for our residents after their swim.
