At our February 6 meeting, the Morris/Wollin Team kept up its tradition of serving a great breakfast for the large group gathered to hear our speaker, Kerry Parker Burnight, PhD.
A Niguel Shores resident, Dr. Burnight has established a Forensic Center at UCI to fight elder abuse and was recently named by the Register as one of the 100 most influential people in Orange County. She spoke on connectivity—maintaining close relationships and social interaction in order to aid longevity and eliminate the isolation that sometimes leads to cognitive impairment and elder abuse. Her studies on this subject led to the development of a means for elder contact and communication through GrandPad, an iPad derivative tool with an easy program for staying in touch with others through wi-fi, internet, email, and other applications. For more information visit www.GrandPad.net.
At our second monthly meeting on February 20, the Roberts Team provided a hearty breakfast, and we heard from Dana Point Mayor pro tem Joe Muller, another Niguel Shores resident, addressing arising issues such as eliminating at-large city council races to create race based council districts.
Our next breakfast will be Tuesday, March 6, at 8:00 a.m. featuring Dr. Aimee Pierce of UCI Medical School talking about dementia; and on March 20, Orange County Supervisor Lisa Bartlett updating us on Dana Point Harbor and other county activities. Why not invite a neighbor to join us and increase his connectivity!
