What a busy time we had in January at our first meeting of 2017! The Clubhouse was a-buzz with members renewing friendships and sharing notes for what they hoped to accomplish in the New Year. The array of luncheon salads and desserts was delicious and plentiful, thanks to our generous members who filled the buffet table with favorites from their kitchens. Natalie Hudgens, representing the Monarch Beach Resort, reminded us of all the resort’s amenities and membership programs. To top off the day, several lucky raffle winners went home with impressive prizes such as brunch, dinner, or spa treatments at the resort. The heavy rain on our meeting day didn’t keep folks away—we had the largest member and guest turnout ever!
Our next luncheon meeting on February 9 will feature a panel of experts discussing ways to care for ill or aging loved ones. Our guests will be Chris Gamble from Comfort Keepers, speaking on in-home care; Kimberly Moore from Atria San Juan, speaking on assisted living; and Jeff Borsuck from Sterling Placements, speaking on board and care facilities. At some point, our families may need to consider these options, and the speakers hope to provide information we can use to make concerned, loving decisions. Everyone should come prepared with questions for the panel. On a lighter note, our February
gathering will also be a time to share some Valentine’s Day fun as we create and distribute the kind of humorous valentines we recall from school days. Remember Roses are red, violets are blue . . .?
Everyone is encouraged to bring a small box of funny valentine cards to the February luncheon meeting—the kind we passed around as kids. We will share them with friends at our luncheon tables.
In the poetic words of our club president, Lydia:
At any age we can offer a smile
to friends we hold quite dear,
so bring a box of children’s cards
and let’s spread some Valentine cheer!
