Do drought years reduce the need for street sealer coat? Our June article gave an overview of street maintenance and a promise for a sealer coating project in September. After inspecting our streets, the experts have recommended delaying those projects because the current coating is in excellent shape. Possibly, the reduced deterioration is because of the drought.
Solar Street Signs?
This summer, our intern student from UC Irvine completed a study to find cost-effective replacements for our ageing street signs. One of his recommendations included solar lighting as well as using more durable materials. Of course, these projects must be prototyped and tested because our seaside environment includes salt fog which gives engineers nightmares. If you would like to see the prototype solar sign, it is located at the corner of Niguel Shores Drive and Halyard Drive.
