One of the most interesting women on the planet in respect to food is going to be the speaker at the Women’s Club meeting at noon on April 9. Cathy Thomas, award-winning food columnist for the Orange County Register, will tell us about her life in food, growing up with a nutrition-centric Mom, and her latest book, 50 Best Plants on the Planet.
Cathy’s weekly columns and food features appear in newspaper food sections across the country. She was awarded first place as the best food columnist in the nation and pioneered the use of culinary-based videos on the Internet. Author of several books, she will sign 50 Best Plants on the Planet ($22.45), if you wish to purchase a copy. With 150 recipes, it is a guide to packing the most nutrients into every delicious bite.
Each person who attends will be entered in a drawing and have a chance to win one of Cathy’s cookbooks.
There will be three winners, but you must be present to win. Be sure to get your free ticket after you get your badge in the lobby. To add to the fun, we will be collecting your recipes for those wonderful salads that you bring (and some that you don’t bring) and your favorite dessert recipes for our cookbook, which will be assembled this summer. It is anticipated that The Niguel Shores Women’s Club Cookbook will be available in late summer or early fall.
You may also e-mail your recipes to Ginny Nevitt at vnevitt@cox.net. The recipes can be handwritten, printed or submitted in digital form.
Look for your luncheon e-mail invitation on Thursday, April 2. Please answer by noon on Sunday, April 5. You will be notified by e-mail if it is your turn to bring a salad for 10-12 people.
The luncheon fee is $3 for members and $5 for guests.
