Come meet Bella, a three-year-old Golden Retriever and Therapy Dog, and her handler, Bob Jones, on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at the Women’s Club luncheon! The fun starts at 12:00 noon.
Bella is a member of Therapy Dogs International, allowing her to visit hospitals, assisted living homes and other facilities to provide comfort and companionship to those who need it. Bob has been a TDI member for the last 13 years. He was instrumental in starting the Pet Therapy program at St. Joseph’s Hospital and in 2012 he was awarded the Values in Action Award for his service. He also is an Evaluator for TDI, testing dogs and their owners to see if they qualify for certification. Bob, who has MS and uses a scooter to get around, will visit each table so you can meet Bella in person.
Therapy Dogs International is the largest organization of its kind with more than 24,750 dogs/handlers. Another successful TDI program is Tail Waggin’ Tutors. This is a program where children can practice reading skills by reading to dogs in the friendly surroundings of their local library. Bob will explain these programs to us and share his experiences with them.
The theme this year for TDI is Paws a while for Love. We hope you can join us and pause awhile with Bella and Bob to learn about a truly wonderful and worthwhile program.
Look for your e-mail invitation on Thursday, February 5, 2015. Please answer by noon on Sunday, February 8, 2015. You will be notified by email if it is your turn to bring a salad for 10-12 people. The luncheon fee is $3 for members and $5 for guests.
